MORE than 30,000 vacancies are available in more than 800 participating organizations and companies from 40 countries and regions at the 2007 Conference on International Exchange of Professionals & the 27th Golden Collar World Job Fair, which will open at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on Nov. 30.

English First (EF), a prominent private language education company, will provide about 1,000 vacancies, according to Bronwyn Broekmann, director of EF’s Shanghai-based academic recruitment and administrative department.

“EF is looking to hire up to 1,000 qualified teachers and academic leaders to help China talk to the world in preparation for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games,” she said. Broekmann, from South Africa, has been working in Shanghai for the past two years.

Founded in 1965, EF specializes in English education and operates in 50 countries.

Headquartered in Switzerland with satellite hubs in Shanghai, London and Boston, EF’s academic research team comprises linguists, scientists and teachers.

Over the past several years, EF has experienced high growth rates in the Chinese market. So far, it has close to 100 schools all over China.

Last year, EF was named the official language training service for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

In China, EF employs 1600 staff, of which approximately 300 are native-English teachers.

“Through the job fair, we will recruit qualified English teachers and academic staff as more as possible, because we look forward to helping China win the gold medal in English in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games,” said Broekmann.

Shenzhen Selen Science & Technology Co. (Selen), a leading company specializing in producing antistatic and clean room products, is planning to offer 12 vacancies at the job fair.

“Our company has decided to take part in this year’s golden collar world job fair because the top-level talents we are looking for are so difficult to be found in other job fairs or through other channels such as the Internet, university campus recruiting and job hunters,” said Gong Chunfang, recruitment commissioner of the human resources department of Selen.

Established in 1993, Selen is headquartered in the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park in Nanshan District. The company has two manufacturing bases, including one in the city, and another in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, as well as more than 30 representative offices all over the country.

“The 12 vacancies will include eight for domestic talents in the fields of design, production, marketing and sales, as well as four positions for foreign talents in the field of marketing and sales,” Gong said.

“The requirements for the four foreign talents are that they must be native English or Japanese speakers because they will be put in charge of developing and expanding our company’s sales market in North America and Japan,” Gong said.

The Beijing Huijia Private School is looking to recruit 50 to 60 qualified teachers, including native English speakers and returned overseas Chinese students for the next school year, according to Chen Hongxia, head of the school’s foreign affairs office.

Established in 1993, the school has about 500 staff members and 2,400 students, ranging from pre-school to high school level, including 270 international students from 22 countries.

“Generally, the requirements for returned Chinese students as applicants are that they must be under 40 years old with a master’s degree and the requirements for foreign applicants are that they must have a bachelor’s or above degree as well as a teaching certificate,” Chen said.
